Facebook used for fundraising

Facebook has had a lot of media coverage lately as no one could have estimated the growth of the social networking site over the past few years. Originally set up for college and university students, it is now estimated that half of the population of people in the UK have a facebook page. Many people use Facebook to share pictures, music, and interests.

But it doesn't stop there. A recent case in the news revealed how a couple in Wales, who had been engaged for over sixteen years, set up a fundraising page on the site where people could donate money. They raised over twenty thousand pounds and some donations were from complete strangers!

It wasn't just money that was donated to the couple. A company had lent a stretch limo and another company donated a buffet spread.
The couple said, "I was flabbergasted. It turned out a friend had set up a Facebook fan page on the internet to get us a free wedding and it just took off."
Many other companies are seeing the benefits of using Facebook fan pages to promote their business or to raise money for an important cause.

Because Facebook reaches across the world, many people have access just by logging onto the internet and now many can simply log on using their phone. This makes it easier than ever to stay connected to other people and businesses.

Facebook grosses millions of dollars each year, and continues to be the most popular social networking site on the internet.
